Tradeoffs between Signaling and Resource Utilization in DiffServ Networks with Hierarchical Aggregation

چکیده
In this paper, we analyze the tradeoffs between signaling and resource utilization in DiffServ networks partitioned in areas (hierarchical domains) using flow aggregates that can be dynamically adjusted. These tradeoffs are studied using two analytical models. In the first model, based on multidimensional birth-death processes, the offered load is detailed at the flow level, which allows accurate assessment of the signaling overhead. The second model accommodates time-varying offered loads, which allows studying the tradeoffs between the time-scale of the aggregate demand and the time-scale of signaling. Our results show that structuring a network domain in areas achieves high performance gains, which can contribute to reduce significantly the cost of core routers.

Performance of Hierarchical Aggregation in Differentiated Services Networks
We address the use of hierarchical aggregation in DiffServ networks. We propose two analytical models to study the tradeoffs between signaling load and resource utilization. In the case of the signaling load, we introduce a novel performance metric that captures, simultaneously, the state information stored and the rate of signaling messages processed at routers. In the first analytical model, ...
متن کاملA Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)
Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF, meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....

∗ This paper is partly funded by the European research project ELISA, ACTS AC310 Abstract : The Differentiated services (DiffServ) architecture promises the provision of QoS enabled networks by following a simple approach, that eliminates scalability concerns and which can be implemented and managed in large networks. However, for end-to-end QoS an appropriate signaling scheme, like the Resourc...
متن کاملA Bandwidth-Broker Based Inter-domain SLA Negotiation
This work presents an Inter-Domain Bandwidth Broker (BB) based Service Level Agreements (SLAs) Negotiation Model for Differentiated Services (DiffServ) networks. A BB in each DiffServ domain handles SLAs on behalf of its domain by communicating with its neighboring peers. The proposed model uses a destination-based SLAs aggregation to increase signaling and state scalability, and it uses a BB-b...
متن کاملApplication of Unified Network Management in LAN for Load Shedding
The differentiated services (DiffServ) model has been proposed as a scalable traffic management mechanism to ensure Internet QoS without using per-flow resource reservation and per flow signaling, but it sacrifices the ability to accurately configure the network devices and efficiently utilize the network resources. In this thesis, the DiffServ model is augmented with traffic engineering tools,...
